The Andhra Pradesh Judicial Service Exam is conducted every year for the recruitment of Civil Judges. The Andhra Pradesh Judiciary exam is held in three successive stages, viz. Preliminary examination, Final examination and a Viva voce for the post of Civil Judge. The notification is published on the High Court’s official website at https://hc.tap.nic.in/. Law Graduates who wish to become members of subordinate judiciary should write the entry-level exam which is the Judiciary exam or the PCS (J)-Provincial Civil Service-Judicial Examination.

Exam Pattern: Andhra Pradesh Judiciary | APJS | 2022

The process of selection shall comprise of three distinct steps as listed below:

• Step 1: Screening Test, which is objective in form; (Computer based. test) with 100 questions of 1 mark each (Max 100 Marks) - 2 Hours

• Step 2: Written Examination (Narrative or Essay type) with three papers, each carrying 100 marks each (300 Marks in Total) - 3 Hours per paper

• Step 3: Viva Voce, which will carry 50 marks.

The candidates who secure 40% and above marks in the screening test (Multiple choice, objective type) will be short listed in the ratio of 1:10 of the available vacancies, for the written examination.

The marks obtained in the screening test will not be counted for determining final order of the merit of the candidates. I.e., The preliminary exam marks are only used for shortlisting for the main exam.

Candidates who score the minimum eligibility marks in the written exam will be called for the viva voce (Personal Interview). The category wise minimum eligibility marks are as below:

• OC (General) category must secure not less than 55% of marks in each paper and not less than 60% of marks in aggregate in the written examination.

Candidates belonging to Backward Class category must secure not less than 50% marks in each paper and not less than 55% of marks in aggregate in the written examination

• Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes categories must secure not less than 45% marks in each paper and not less than 50% of marks in aggregate in the written examination

The candidates for the Viva voce will be called on the ratio of 1:3 of the published vacancies. i.e., For every vacancy, three candidates will be called for the viva voce round. If multiple candidates meeting the basic eligibility score the same marks in the main exam, then all such candidates will be called for the final round.

In the Viva Voce, the academic knowledge of a candidate, his/her communication skills, his/her tact and ability to handle various situations in the Court will be tested.

For final selection to the posts of Civil Judge (Junior Division), candidates must score the minimum marks as listed below.

• OC (General) / BC category candidates must secure at least 60% marks in aggregate in Written Examination and Viva-Voce

SC/ST category candidates must secure at least 50% marks in aggregate in written examination and Viva-Voce.

The result for the Andhra Pradesh Judiciary Exam for Civil Judge 2022 will be uploaded on the official website of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Separate results are announced for each phase conducted and after which a final merit list is prepared of the students who have qualified. The final merit list of the candidates qualifying is prepared on the basis of the score obtained in the Main Examinations and the marks obtained in the Personal Interview/Viva Voce. However, the marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are not counted for the preparation of the final merit list and is only of qualifying nature. The Cut-off marks are decided by the exam conducting authority to shortlist the qualifying candidates. Clearing the cut-off is important for each of the candidates.
